Make cards & gifts with friends at a Valentine's theme party. Ideas for activities, crafts, music, games, snacks and tips for a fun teacher Valentine's lesson plan

What fun to gather together with friends or classmates and make lots and lots of beautiful and whimsical Valentine cards and gifts. The more the merrier; and that goes for kids, parents, stickers, glitter, paper, and tons of scrapbooking supplies.

Following are some ideas for an awesome hearts and cupid party for friends, a classroom, or a homeschooling group.

Keep the February 14th Invitations Simple & Ask Guests for Help

  • To save personal energy and supplies for the crafting event, make up simple fliers on the computer and get the word out early.
  • Ask each guest to bring at least five creative craft supplies to share. Suggestions: Pink, red, and other colored plain and fancy paper, feathers, stickers, glitter, or glitter glue, scrapbooking supplies like punches, rubber stamps and ink, fancy edge scissors, lace doilies and so on
  • Also ask each guest to bring their own age-appropriate scissors, school glue, and maybe a few markers. A manila folder or tote bag might also be a good idea for bringing home creations.

Set-up Ideas for the Valentine-Making Party

  • With kids and glue, plastic table covers and baby wipes for cleaning hands (faces, and so on) will be handy. Try a dollar store for cute and cheap table covers.
  • Make sure to have plenty of table space and chairs (goop-proof if possible).
  • For smaller children, consider cutting out paper hearts in advance so kids can concentrate on creative decorating.
  • Expect glitter to get pretty much everywhere. To avoid this, a "glitter station" might be set up outside.
  • A drying table is a good idea for letting crafts set as glue hardens.
  • Set up simple snacks like heart-shaped cookies, pink cupcakes, conversation hearts candies and pink lemonade. For heartier snacks, try little sandwiches cut into heart shapes with a cookie cutter, and strawberry milk
  • Remember cups and napkins.

Music for a Valentine's Day Party

  • Love songs abound, but with kids, too mushy might be "gross, Mom!" Try to keep to simple love songs or friendship-oriented tunes.
  • Some pretty tame song ideas are some of the early Beatles songs like I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah).
  • For songs to sing, check out these Valentine song twists on old favorites.
