Scrapbookers can collect a large number of pictures and memorabilia during the summer. Here are some suggestions that will help artists create great themed layouts

Summertime provides scrapbookers with many great opportunities to capture special memories on film. By the end of the season it is not uncommon for such artists to experience difficulty in deciding how to use the great amount of photos they have accumulated. The following Scrapbook themes will provide artists with some ideas for creating layouts and albums with their summer pictures.

Outdoor Activities and Events

With the onset of warmer weather, people begin to devote more time to outdoor activities. Families gather for reunions, outdoor enthusiast gear up for camping and bush related activities and many youth head off to camp for their first experience away from home. The following are some ideas for outdoor layout themes based on random photos left over from these events.

  • Perfect — or not-so-perfect — Picnic themes can be compiled with random pictures from outdoor eating events.
  • Couple Camping or Collective Camping themes are great for left over pictures from different camping trips.
  • Fun in the Sun themes can work for any number of kids activities, water sports or BBQ events.
  • A Bush-Whacked theme can also be used for assorted camping pictures as well as hiking, mountaineering or nature walk photos.

Travel Layouts

Scrapbookers with left over or duplicate photos from different trips or vacations can put several together to create general travel layout themes. These kinds of layouts could be grouped in a number of different ways.

  • Location focused layouts are based on a particular place that has been visited on several occasions over a period of time.
  • Person focused travel layouts can be easier to put together as there doesn't have to be any connection between the pictures being used other than a specific person, couple or group.
  • Event focused layouts created with random photos are a good choice when the artist has 1 or 2 photos from an event — such as Canada Day — over a number of years.

Favorite Summer Memories

Summer memory layouts are created using an assortment of pictures left over from past summer events that held a special place in the scrapbookers heart. These layouts can consist of 1 or 2 photos each accompanied by detailed journaling telling a specific story or several unrelated photos combined with a single caption or clever title.

Creating Layout Titles and Captions

When encountering a creative block with respect to thinking up a title or caption, scrapbook artists can search libraries or the Internet for poems or song lyrics that depict summer in some way. Reading through a few of these creative works can provide the artist with some raw material to work with and mold to fit the theme of the story being told by their layout.

Scrapbooking is a creative way to make use of summer pictures and memorabilia. Outdoor and travel themed layouts capture the essence of the season while random photos of other summer activities can be used in any number of summer themed page designs. Scrapbook artists can rest easy knowing there can be a home for practically every summer photo taken.
