Record the changes that pregnancy brings to body, soul and mind and create wonderful memories to look back on.

Pregnancy is a time of change, expectation and uncertainty. Making a scrapbook can provide creative fun as well as being a vehicle for exploring emotions and recording physical changes.

Journaling

Record the thoughts, desires and changes over the nine months and add snippets to each page of the scrapbook. Try using a gold pen or other special effects.

Pregnancy Test Confirmation

Keep the paper printout or photograph the test strip and use this as the focus for the first page. Backgrounds of clouds, bubbles or rose buds lend themselves to this theme as do words such as hope, dreams and expectation.

Month by Month

Consider using a page or a double spread per month. Collect any relevant papers, test results and trivia and combine them into a collage of memories.

Ultrasound Pictures

Ultrasound printouts can fade from exposure to light. Circumvent this by photographing or scanning the image and printing it out. Most women have two or three ultrasounds during pregnancy and these can make interesting viewing. Draw lines from the image to recognizable features and label them accordingly.

Record of Medications

Pregnancy brings a host of minor ailments. Make copies of prescription notes and photograph the medications. Common examples are antacids, iron supplements , folic acid, vitamins and laxatives. Consider using wood grain cardstock to depict a shelf and arrange cut outs of the medicines upon it.

Layette

Most moms-to-be have great fun buying clothing and supplies for the expected arrival. Photograph the entire layette as well as individual items. A page could be devoted to socks or bibs only. Use lace and soft material trimmings to add appeal.

Nursery

Baby’s first room is also very important and deserves a page or two. Show before and after pictures or include snippets of curtain and crib fabric. Pick up on themes of stuffed toys or clowns and look for cardstock that complements the choice.

Shower

The majority of women have friends who arrange a shower for them. This deserves a double spread and lots of pictures of friends and gifts. Try cutting around the outlines of people to minimise too much detail.

The Birth

Get a birth companion to record each stage of the birth. The labor, delivery room and ward are all important features as well as the actual birth. Show a timeline in this section of the scrapbook by using clock faces or creating digital number displays. An enlarged photo of baby’s first moments will create a suitable climax to a pregnancy book.

Headlines from Newspapers

Finish the book by creating a collage of newspaper headlines from the day of baby’s birth. Then using large pink or blue letters, make a headline across the top of these announcing the birth. Look for unusual ideas such as “Sam Surfs into Town” or “Genna’s Gentle Arrival”.

A pregnancy scrapbook is a special way to capture special memories and something that the child will love when old enough to understand. Even if baby has already been born, it’s not too late to create a scrapbook about the months before birth.
