Themes for September through December – Craft Gift Calender

Children love to create presents for those they love. This article explains the procedure for making calendar pages for the last part of the year.

Moms, Dad, Grandparents and caregivers love getting presents that children make themselves. The presents are even more special when they provide a keepsake of the child at the point the gift is created. In the articles Hand Print Calendar and Hand Calendar, the first eight months of the year's calendar pages were created. This article finishes the calendar.

The calendar pages created here are made with a few simple craft materials. Materials needed are construction paper in various colors and calendar pages printed from software or the Internet.

September–Squirrel or Leaves

Materials

  • Construction paper
  • Crayons
  • August calendar page printed on plain white paper

Procedure

For Squirrel

  1. Trace the child's hand with fingers spread on brown construction paper.
  2. Find a squirrel picture in a coloring book or on the internet.
  3. Cut out the hand and the squirrel minus its tail.
  4. Glue the hand to the centerof the back of the August calendar.
  5. Color the squirrel and glue to the hand.
  6. Write September Squirrel

For Leaves

  1. Trace the child's hand with fingers spread, including a couple of inches up the wrist, on brown construction paper.
  2. Cut out leaf shapes from red, yellow, and orange construction paper.
  3. Cut out grass from green construction paper.
  4. Cut out hand and Glue to center of back of August calendar.
  5. Glue leaves falling from hand and glue grass to the bottom of hand.
  6. Write September Leaves

October–Scarecrow or Ghost

Materials

  • Construction paper
  • Word BOO written and copied on plain white paper (for ghost)
  • Crayons
  • September calendar printed on plain white paper

Procedure

For Scarecrow

  1. Trace the child's hand with only the thumb and pinky spread open on yellow or brown paper
  2. Cut out the hand.
  3. Glue the hand to near the top center of the back of the September calendar.
  4. Draw a head with face and hair under the hand.
  5. Write October Scarecrow.

For the Ghost

  1. Trace the child's hand with fingers spread on white construction paper.
  2. Cut out hand and the word BOO.
  3. Cut a large black rectangle.
  4. Glue rectangle to the back of the September calendar.
  5. Glue the hand and word BOO to black rectangle.
  6. Write October Spooks or Ghost

November–Turkey or Football

Materials

  • Construction paper
  • Crayons
  • October calendar printed on plain white paper

Procedure

For the Turkey

  1. Trace the child's hand on brown construction paper with fingers spread.
  2. Cut out hand and glue to the center back of the October calendar.
  3. Color the fingers different colors and draw a face on the thumb.
  4. Add feet and scenery with crayons.
  5. Write Thanksgiving Turkey

For the Football

  1. Trace the child's hand with fingers tight together on brown paper.
  2. Cut out the hand and glue to the center back of teh October calendar.
  3. Round off both ends of football with crayons.
  4. Write November Football

December–Holly

Materials

  • Green and red construction paper
  • crayons
  • November calendar printed on plain white paperf

Procedure

  1. Trace three copies of child's hand with fingers closed on green construction paper.
  2. Cut out hands.
  3. Cut three circles from red construction paper.
  4. Glue hands to the back of the November calendar page, ends of palms touching in a semi circle.
  5. Glue red circles to the palm area of hands.
  6. Write December Holly.

If the directions in all three articles have been followed, a memorial functional, present has been created for a special adult. This present is perfect for Christmas and many other holidays or just to memorialize the child at the time.

The pictures for each month can be mixed and matched to different months as desired. For example, the falling leaves would work for October as would the football.
