More Recycling Cardboard Project IdeasCheap, Easy and Low Cost Crafts for Home and School
Cardboard is an inexpensive and readily available material that's perfect for both home and classroom projects that can be made in no time at little and little cost.
There are two types of cardboard that can be easily recycled: flat cardboard, which is typically used in food, shoe boxes, and inserts, and corrugated cardboard, which is used in packing boxes. Cardboard in all its forms can be transformed into a myriad of practical and attractive items ranging from storage boxes to scrapbooks to photo albums. Breakfast in Bed TrayHave breakfast in bed on a tray made from a corragated cardboard box. Just remove the top flaps and cut arches from the two long sides to fit over your lap. Decorate the bottom of the box – which is now the top of your tray – with leftover wallpaper, and you're ready for those bacon and eggs. Candle ShadesAdd a little glamour to your candlesticks with small shades made from thinner card. Use an existing shade as a template and cut a new one from the cardboard. Decorate the new shade with stenciling or cover with scrap fabric or wallpaper to complement your décor. Cards and NotesCereal boxes and package inserts can be transformed into your own note cards, bookmarks, greeting cards, labels, gift tags, and cards. Simply cut out the required size and cover the printed side with pictures clipped from magazines. Desk AccessoriesBrighten up a study desk or work area with desk accessories such as blotter, envelope container, pen and pencil boxes using cardboard containers. Festive CrackersCrackers aren’t just for Christmas anymore. You can make your own from cardboard tubing for almost any occasion. Fireplace ScreenMake a cardboard screen to hide your (unused) fireplace cavity during summer. Cover with colorful wrapping paper or leftover fabric. HatboxesCraft an old-fashioned hatbox and cover it with wallpaper. This makes great holder for hats, mittens, scarves and anything else that needs seasonal storage. Napkin RingsRecycle cardboard tubing into inexpensive napkin rings. Cut out 4 inch rings from the tubes and cover with leftover fabric or decorative paper. Decorate each, if you like, with ribbons, and other embellishments. Pop Top Storage ContainersCover cardboard tube containers (the kind with plastic snap-on lids that potato chips come in) with wallpaper or gift wrap scraps. Use them to store all kinds of odds and ends, such as paper clips, buttons, or marbles. Pinhole CameraTransform a shoe box into a pinhole camera (see the easy how-to instructions.) Soap BoxesSmall decorative soap boxes are great organizers for pins, buttons, and all manner of odds and ends and doesn't need any other embellishments. ShoeboxesShoeboxes are instant storage containers and gift boxes. Leave as is or cover with leftover gift wrap, wallpaper, comic pages from newspapers. Of course, they can be used to store shoes; attach a picture of the shoe to the shoebox for easy reference. Sectioned Wine or Liquor BoxesA sectioned wine or liquor carton is a great place to store dowels, moldings, furring strips, weather stripping, and metal rods. Other cardboard recycling projects include a cereal_box_clock and a paper_organizer made from_lunch_bags.
