A photo bookmark is an easy-to-make, handmade present that is perfect to give any time.
This easy-to-make memorial bookmark which incorporates the photo of a loved one is a unique holiday gift that says “I love you” all year long. These simple directions can be followed by even the least creative person.
Start looking around your house for items to make a bookmark with; bookmarks can be made with items that are often times already lying around the house. If you do not already have card stock on hand, look for cardboard scraps or manila folders, which are both stiff enough to support a photo and stickers without creasing.
Items Needed:
- Cardstock
- Stickers
- Rubber Stamps and ink pads
- Photographs
- Colored Pens
- Ribbons
- Beads
- Buttons
Directions:
- Use a ruler to trace lines onto the cardstock measuring approximately 6 inches by 2 inches and then cut out the cardstock on the lines.
- Measure the mid-way space between the cardstock edges near the top, and using a hole-punch, punch a hole into the bookmark.
- Cut a ribbon to 12 inches and feed the ribbon through the hole. Tie the ribbon into a knot onto the cardstock.
- Find a family photo of your loved one and cut it out in an outline just outside the edge of the section you would like to use. Alternately, you may cut the photo out into a rectangular shape to paste directly onto the cardstock, or use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to trace around the face of the photo.
- Glue the photo of your loved one onto the cardstock. Before attaching the rest of the stickers and photos, arrange them in the desired layout.
- Decorate the bookmark with stickers of your choice. If your bookmark is in honor of a loved one, use stickers which express the personality of your loved one and your feelings about this person.
- Tie beads or buttons onto the ends of the ribbon.
- Write words of appreciation, affirmations, and descriptive words of your loved one, or poems that express love.
- For extra decoration, glue sequins or small rhinestones onto the bookmark.
- Remember to decorate the backside either in the same manner or simply by signing this miniature art piece.
Giving ideas include placing inside its own special box alone or with a gift book, using as a stocking stuffer, hanging one or more on the tree, or using in place of gift tags. Make one for everyone on your holiday list, attaching one to the bottom of each dinner plate for added dinnertime fun.
Happy gift giving!
