Kids are always making memories for parents to cherish. Let your child capture some memories of her own in a simple scrapbooking project with these ideas.

Creating a scrapbook is truly an art. Many crafters take their scrapbooking very seriously. If your child wants to break into the art of scrapbooking, here are some tips for starting her off with a simple scrapbook. Who knows where her imagination may take her. And, you may even discover a hint or two that you can use, too!

Scrapbooking Ideas

Scrapbooking starts with a photo and an idea. What happens next is purely based on imagination. Who has the best imagination of all? Kids, of course! If your child shows an interest in scrapbooking, start her off with these ideas:

Help her plan a theme or topic for a scrapbook. She may just want to do a simple scrapbook that involves many different family moments or activities with friends. That's great! If she truly enjoys scrapbooking, you can discuss individual albums for different themes later.

Buy basic materials of her own. If she feels ownership of her materials, it may help keep her interest level going. Try a 6-page album before going to a bigger album. That way she will get those pages filled and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Give her room to create without watching over her shoulder too much. By all means, if she has questions, answer them. But, don't stop every move she makes with suggestions. She has her creativity, and you have yours.

Scrapbooking Supplies

Shopping for scrapbooking supplies together makes a fun mother daughter outing. Just remember that your daughter is an individual and her selections should be her own, with your guidance, of course. A basic supply list for kids can include:

*There is probably no real need for more advanced scrapbooking tools such as edge-trimming devices or eyelet & punch kits. If used, they do require adult supervision.

Scrapbook Kits

Kits can make jumping into a project very simple. If your child is having a hard time deciding upon a theme, these ready-made kits can spark her imagination and help her get the juices flowing. There are literally hundreds of kits available that range in price. Discount stores will offer the best prices, but you can also find great deals at eBay, outlet stores, and at clearance sales both online and at brick and mortar stores.

Simple Scrapbooking

With so many options available on the scrapbooking market today, it can be rather overwhelming for an adult, much less a child who wants to try her hand at it. Remember the KISS (Keep It Simple Silly) acronym and things should go well.

If an album seems like too much for your child, depending on her age or skill level, cardmaking is another great way to use expressive scrapbooking techniques. She can use all of the same fun tools and items to make greeting cards for friends and family.

Happy scrapping!
