Using stickers is one of the simplest ways to embellish scrapbook pages. They save time too because they're pre-cut and ready to add to your layout; no gluing necessary
Stickers are self-adhesive components that can be made of paper, cardstock, vellum, embossed paper, plastic and metals. They’re available as titles, quotes, phrases, individual letters, frames, borders, tags and accents. Some popular designs for simple accent stickers include hearts, flowers, stars, leaves and snowflakes.
Stickers are versatile. Beyond simple embellishment, they can be used to support the theme of your scrapbook layout. As simple as these accents might seem, it can be tricky to use them effectively. Follow these simple tips to get the most out of your stickers, for a great result every time!
Tips for Using Stickers
Avoid “sticker sneeze”. Beginner scrapbookers have a tendency to place stickers all over their layouts. Instead, use a few well-placed stickers rather than a whole sheet! This has the added of advantage of making your supplies go further.
Maximize sticker impact. Small stickers can easily get lost on a layout. To increase their visual weight, group them together. To prevent the feeling that your stickers are “floating”, anchor them on tags or accent blocks. Use them to add pizzazz to a title or journaling block.
Arrange stickers in a visual triangle. Use stickers, die-cuts or cut-outs to create balance on your page or layout by arranging them in a visual triangle.
Layer accents under vellum journaling block. To soften a strong sticker or die-cut, layer a vellum text block over top of it.
Use a common theme, style or color when mixing stickers. You can mix stickers from different manufacturers, if they have a similar theme or color palette. If you use accents with too much variation in style and color, your page will lack unity.
Mat stickers with clear backing before laying them on dark paper. Vellum stickers and stickers that have a clear backing can get lost if you place them on a dark or strongly colored background. To avoid this, mat them with a light color before adhering them to the layout.
Use co-ordinated sets. Many stickers are available in coordinated sets which make it easy to put together a unified page or layout. Try building a scene by combining stickers from a set.
Hide your stash. If you have kids, hide your sticker supply or you might find that your embellishments have disappeared!
